Inspiration Request: Grey, Gold and Blush

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! Some of you are like, “Oh…yeah. That lame day where I’m supposed to wear green?” Some of you are like, “OH YEAH!!! That awesome day where I get to drink green beer!” Either way, it’s gonna be a good day. My sweetie is a big tall Irish man who LOVES the holiday, so around here, we care. Later today, in honor of my love, and because I’m in the mood for it, I’m posting a green inspiration board. I’ve been feeling the jeweled tone, so be on the look out.

What the heck? Let’s get to this post. I received this email below from {grey} reader, Jennifer:

We’re having an October wedding in a historic building in Providence RI. Since my favourite color is (surprise, surprise) grey, I’ve chosen a pewter/charcoal for the girls’ dresses. My mother doesn’t want the whole day to feel like a funeral, so I promised her that I’d bring in some colour. I’d like to have blush tinted flowers – sort of a warm pink. I love Saipua’s bouquets! We have collected (via ebay and the Salvation Army) teapots and coffee pots, as well as smaller sugar bowls and creamers. All the arrangements will be in those. And….that’s where I sort of come to a stand-still. I would like to add some gold in somewhere, since the rooms at the reception site have detailed frescoes in gold. But people (aka my mom) keep thinking that since we’re doing grey, I should stick with silver. But I really want to warm everything up, and I think the gold would be perfect. My dress is made of untreated silk, so it’s that natural color. I want it all to look like a ornate tea party. Good thing I still have time to work out all these details.

Well, Jennifer. I agree with your mom…no funerals. Pink was a great choice. Actually, grey LOVES every color, but I do love me some blush pink. And I agree with YOU about the gold. Good call on the need to warm it up. Maybe this inspiration board will assure your mom gold will do just the trick. Happy planning!

Inspiration Request: New Year’s Eve Wedding

Happy Monday, dear readers! So glad you are here checking out the blog today. I have some great ideas coming for this week, so be sure to keep checking in. To get us started off today, I have a new inspiration request from a reader named Jillian. Here’s what she wrote:

So, I am getting married on  New Year’s Eve in Boston and  I am wondering if you have seen or have any ideas  for NYE weddings.   I don’t want it to become too theme-y and I find that  a lot of  the ideas I have seen on websites are mostly just that…glitter and   sparkles and all things SUPER cheesy.  .I really wanted to go with the classic  black and white -I am a HUGE fan of the Great Gatsby-esque theme and  especially the classic tux like you blogged about!  Then I was thinking  maybe an accent color but didn’t know what I could pull off (I thought about  simple touches of red, but then though it might end up looking more  Christmas/holiday)…and that’s where I got stuck.  The only color I  really don’t think I want is pink..I love the color, but it just doesn’t suit  my fiancé and I for our wedding!

Okay, folks. If I were getting married on New Year’s Eve (which I’d REALLY love to do) I think I’d go with a champagne theme. Champagne is such a quintessential celebratory element, so it is perfect for a New Year’s Eve wedding. The look doesn’t have to be overt or obvious…just think glowing lighting, LOTS of champagne and champagne and gold accent colors to really warm up the whole black and white look. One of my favorite images below is the chandelier which, if you look closely, has a HUGE netting of balloons hidden behind it. At the stroke of midnight, all of the balloons were released on the guests. So old school and so cute!
