Decisions, Decisions

Nancy Liu Chin asked me to guest blog for her a while back and I finally stumbled across a topic that I was very excited to discuss. So excited in fact, that I thought I’d share the article with you, though you can see the original post here. Because it’s about the difficulty of making decisions, I thought this bouquet board was a perfect accompaniment.

{Credits listed after the jump}

I stumbled across the following post on a forum, and it inspired me to write a few decision making techniques that will hopefully help those of us that are crippled with indecision.

Hello all,

I’m hoping I’m not alone… but I’m starting to feel really fed up! I can’t seem to make a decision, I think because I want it all to be so perfect… and scared I could get it soooo wrong! I can’t make a decision.

The dress…. sooooo confused! Invitations… perhaps there is far too much choice. Flowers…?? Colours …??

It’s all overwhelming! H2b thinks we have loads of time to decide… JULY 2010.

My family is not helpful… Friends are great but I think I’m driving them mad, and to be honest they have their own lives.

I’m living wedding, dreaming wedding!! What the hell will be I be like on the day? It’s overwhelming!!! I can’t seem to shut off from it, however don’t seem to be getting anywhere…if that makes sense.

Ok Rant OVER! xx

This rant really resonated with me, not only because, as a stylist and designer I often feel the same way, but also because I know lots of brides who struggle with a similar sense of overwhelming indecision!

With so many wonderful wedding resources, magazines, and blogs out there, finding wedding inspiration has never been easier. Making decisions, on the other hand, has never been more difficult. Every day, we’re lured into a state of absolute indecision by another real wedding, inspiration board or fabulous vendor feature. How is one to decide when there’s just too much good stuff out there??? Well, I can’t profess to have all the answers, but I thought I’d share a few decision-making tools (which are sometimes about the process of elimination) that might help the committal process!

Read the rest after the jump!

Modern Dowry: Ceramics

I found Ninainvorm via Thoughtful Day. And I’m so glad I did. Because with plates like these, I could serve burnt casserole and it wouldn’t matter. The plates would make up for it. I mean it…I really do. My boyfriend may not agree, but that’s neither here nor there. He just doesn’t appreciate pretty things like I do.

Please note how Nina uses vintage pieces and reworks them. Excuse me while I wipe the tears from my eyes. Vintage + Modern = Absolute Obsession! Casserole anyone?

Picture 9

Besides the fact that I want these for my house…be it hung on the wall or serving casserole, I also think these pieces could be a great little addition for a wedding. The Yes, Oui and Love collections are all so perfect. Perhaps you could prop these up on display next to your guest book, hang a few amongst a collage of photos, or implement them pretty much any other place where you can possibly justify their use.

Check out Ninainvorm’s Etsy shop to purchase one of these, keep up with her on her blog AND visit her flickr page in case you can’t get enough.

Sunday Suppers & Amy Atlas

Sunday Suppers teamed with Amy Atlas for their recent event and henceforth completely blew my mind. The photos of the Morroccan inspired table were shot by Karen Mordechai are just unbelievable. Additionally, Aran Goyoaga of Cannelle et Vanille contributed some of the desert creations, as did Ali Kantor. The cake is by Love Street Cakes, goodie bags by Thoughtful Day and the flowers by Rountree Flowers. I SWOON! Can these folks get together to do my wedding?

Sunday Suppers

There’s a new lovely little blog in town called Sunday Suppers, which is a collaboration between Casey Solomon and Karen Mordechai. The event is a cooking-dining-learning experience. I’m featuring it here today not only because I love the idea, but also because I think these photos are a dazzling display of an earthy organic approach to setting the table for any festivity, be it wedding, shower, or the like.

Flowers & Dirt

It seems most brides really have their hearts set on floral centerpieces. And I don’t blame you…they are JUST SO PRETTY. However, if you’re looking for a way to incorporate stems on the table but are concerned about cost, I’ve got an option worth considering. Why not keep ’em potted?

The pros as are follows: 1) You can buy the centerpieces ahead of time…so if you’re a DIY bride, it’s like doing your own flowers a week in advance…and with little to no work!  2) They can double as favors if you do a small grouping per table.  3) You can plant them and have a nice little memento from your wedding day that will outlast that frozen wedding cake you’re going to choke down in a year.  4) They are rather affordable!

Here are a few delightful examples:
